Audiovisual Translations

Audiovisual translations are present in our daily life, i.e. such as in series and films we watch everyday from our comfortable sofa, both in original and dubbed versions and with audio descriptions, and even in advertisings or in information products on the Internet. The peculiarity of this translation lies in details such as the adaptation of the cultural references of the source language to the target culture or the temporal limitation determined by the audiovisual product.  Therefore, a good audiovisual translation will be performed by professionals with experience in the sector, who produce a truly adapted material and according to the criteria required by each type of product.

Translation and Dubbing

Adapted to culture and register

When translating for dubbing, the translator must translate the original script saving the cultural references, solving word games and different situations (i.e. irony, humour, etc.). In this process, the original meaning and natural style must be respected and preserved, so that the result is completely adapted to the target culture and registry.

In addition to this, the translator must deal with the additional task of synchronizing or adjusting the translation with the image, ensuring that the movements of the lips coincide with the words pronounced by the original actors.

Subtitling

Faithful and natural language

In the case of subtitling, the translator must reflect what is heard in the audiovisual product through subtitles. Through different techniques, these subtitles will be limited to a reading speed and a comfortable segmentation for the viewer, without losing sight of the fidelity to the source and the natural style of the dialogues.

Special mention deserves the subtitling for hearing impaired. This task involves the translation of the own information pertaining to the dialogues of those taking part in the scene, along with the information on the characteristics of the dialogue (tone, accent, etc.) or any other sound effect relevant to the understanding of the document.

Audio-description - Improving accessibility

The audio description is the clear description of what takes place in any audiovisual document, so that a visually impaired person can perceive it as close as possible to what a sighted user would see. Among other elements, physical descriptions, movements, costumes or sceneries are herein included. This is used for example in films, television, performing arts (theatre, dance, opera) and museums.

Voice-over - Script adjusted to the original work

Voice-over lies in a translated and adjusted script of the audiovisual work played by a single narrator (dubbing actor), whose voice is put over the character’s own voice.

Video Games Localization - Adjustment to the target context and culture

Video game localization consists of the translation and adaptation of the scripts and texts appearing on the screen of a video game.
